Literacy in Prep: Workshop 29 May 2010

An example of an attractive Word Wall

The Fitzroy ECTA Regional group recently hosted a workshop in Yeppoon on Saturday the 29th of May with Pat Edgar on targeting opportunities for literacy in Prep.

The workshop was well attended and a great opportunity for regional schools to catch up and network. In the workshop Pat covered areas such as the draft national curriculum for K/1, which was a great opportunity for everyone to discuss the possible changes that we would see when the curriculum was introduced and how our schools were dealing with it now. Pat gave us many practical ideas to use in our classroom and reminded us that we should be reading for enjoyment daily.

She encouraged us all to have a word wall in our classrooms and her final message was just to expose the children to as much literacy as we possibly could in the year.

"Knock Knock" Workshop A Great Success!

A great time was had by all at the Sue Southey Music Workshop held by the Fitzroy ECTA Group on Saturday 31st October. It was a wonderful opportunity for early childhood professionals to extend and enhance their musical knowledge. As always Sue provided a us with an active, practical and exciting workshop. A big thank you to Natalie Bain and Kathy Wright for their time and effort in organising a terrific workshop. It was a excellent opportunity to network and promote play based education.

  • 30 April:
  • We had our first meeting for the year in March and are due for another next week (4 - 8 May).
  • We discussed re-establishing a combined U8's event on the coast. We are keen to make this a bigger event to highlight the importance of early childhood. We were looking to get council involved!
  • We saw how an interactive whiteboard can be used in Prep situation.

* Provide networking with Early Years Teachers to gain ideas and support
* Be a voice for early years teachers as well as promote PD opportunities
*Gain access to latest news on EC practices via ECTA videolinqs, conference, DVDs and the website
*Promote Early Childhood in the region.
