Posted 2006: The information about directions for the next five years is relevant to the interests of many members.
TThe Bernard van Leer Foundation has over the last year been reviewing its programmatic priorities within the broad field of early childhood. The Foundation has decided to focus over the next five years on three issues:
- Strengthening the care environment ('Care', for short): parent, family and caregiver support; young children affected by AIDS, etc
- Successful transitions ('Transitions'): helping children move successfully into environments outside the home, especially into school
- Social inclusion/respect for diversity ('Diversity'): promoting inclusion of all children; helping children develop positive self and group identities and prosocial behaviour such as empathy, negotiation, problem-solving, etc
Internally, each of these issues will be led by a Programme Manager.
The Bernard van Leer Foundation works to enhance opportunities for children aged 0 to 8, growing up in circumstances of social and economic disadvantage, with the objective of developing their innate potential to the greatest extent possible.
