New Children's Art Centre to inspire young Queenslanders

Opening November 2006: Young Queenslanders will enjoy world-class art exhibitions designed especially for them when the Children's Art Centre opens in the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art later this year.

The first major Children's Art Centre project at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art will be Kids' APT as part of the fifth Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art - the building's opening exhibition in November.

For children living outside Brisbane, the centre will tour exhibitions, interactive artworks and programs to regional Queensland.

The gallery's Summer Family Day featured its largest-ever interactive art work, 'Box City'. About 40 Queensland artists worked with children and their families to construct a giant, painted cardboard and paper city as part of the exhibition 'Made for This World: Contemporary Art and the Places We Build', which continues until February 19.
